Membership is typically taken out in the name of the family or family company and then extends to family members including spouses and next-generation members from age 18. Signatories are billionaires and billionaire couples who have publicly committed to give the majority of their wealth to philanthropy during their lifetime or in their wills. Most publish a signed letter explaining their reasoning. A separate Next Generation group, created in 2014, has more than 300 active members worldwide aged 18 to 75, drawn from the children and grandchildren of signatories; their identities are not disclosed because they did not personally sign the pledge.

FBN International's central contact address is connect@fbn-i.org. Someone who meets the billionaire threshold and is ready to make the public commitment contacts the Giving Pledge to express interest.
