Membership cost calculator

An arithmetic sum of what each organization discloses (initiation, dues, chapter dues) for the first year and for three years, with every undisclosed component named rather than guessed.

This is not a quotation. Ranges are taken at their midpoint; monthly dues are multiplied by twelve; retreats, travel, events and chapter costs that the organization does not publish are listed as excluded. Only organizations with at least one disclosed fee can be chosen.

Worked example. The two organizations below were chosen because both publish enough to add up; nothing about them is special. Pick your own below. The arithmetic, and the honesty about what is left out, is the same.

How to read the estimate

The first-year figure is what the published components add up to in the year you join: any initiation or application fee, plus one year of dues and, where the organization publishes them, chapter dues. The three-year figure repeats the recurring parts three times and counts the one-time parts once. Where an organization publishes a range, the midpoint is used and the range itself is shown on its cost page.

What is not counted matters as much as what is. Forum retreats, international events, travel, spouse programmes and chapter-level surcharges are rarely published as fixed amounts; they appear here by name under “not counted” rather than as a guess. When an organization lists several tiers of the same fee, a full rate and a reduced rate for younger or affiliate members, say, only the first-listed tier is added and the others are shown for reference.

Treat the result as a floor, not a budget. Every figure carries the date it was verified on the organization’s cost page; anything older than a year is flagged there, and the organization’s own current schedule prevails.
