Primary audience Members of business-owning families (owners, executives, non-executive shareholders and next-generation family members) where the family controls the business People in their twenties to early forties who control or will control significant wealth (inheritors, next-generation philanthropists and impact investors) together with social entrepreneurs, philanthropic advisers and young public-sector leaders
Membre type Members are individuals from families that own and control an operating business that has reached at least the second generation of family ownership, management or involvement. Membership is typically taken out in the name of the family or family company and then extends to family members including spouses and next-generation members from age 18. NEXUS deliberately mixes wealth-holders with the people they might fund. Its Australian chapter publishes the target ratio: roughly 50 per cent wealth holders including next-generation philanthropists, inheritors and impact investors; 30 per cent social change makers; 15 per cent corporate funders, impact investors and philanthropic advisers; and 5 per cent young leaders in public service. Most participants are between 15 and 40, with up to 10 per cent of places reserved for mentors and allies over 40.

Application process Applicants approach the FBN member association for their country or region rather than FBN International. At FBN Asia, the published route is to review the eligibility criteria, complete and submit an application form, then be contacted by the association to work through the remaining steps. Membership is normally taken in the name of the family business, with a principal member plus alternate, next-generation and supplementary family members nominated afterwards. FBN International's central contact address is connect@fbn-i.org. Applications open three to four months before each summit. Candidates apply online or are invited, and the NEXUS Organizing Committee reviews within weeks against member referrals, personal and professional background, diversity and the target composition ratios. NEXUS describes the process as highly selective, with far more applications than places. Acceptance plus attendance at the multi-day summit confers membership for three years. Existing members are not guaranteed a seat at future summits.
Selectivity Not publicly disclosed: FBN publishes eligibility criteria but no acceptance rate or applicant volume. NEXUS states applications significantly exceed available spots and that a quality application does not guarantee admission, noting that it has 6,000+ members while its largest Global Summit seats only 700. No acceptance rate is published.
