Afdelingen The Giving Pledge has no chapters. Not publicly disclosed as a number — NEXUS says it supports more than 60 regional, country and city leaders building local chapters, and Wikipedia describes teams in roughly 20 countries, but no chapter list or count is published.
Primary audience Individuals and couples with a net worth of at least one billion dollars, or who would be billionaires but for their giving People in their twenties to early forties who control or will control significant wealth — inheritors, next-generation philanthropists and impact investors — together with social entrepreneurs, philanthropic advisers and young public-sector leaders
Typisch lid Signatories are billionaires and billionaire couples who have publicly committed to give the majority of their wealth to philanthropy during their lifetime or in their wills. Most publish a signed letter explaining their reasoning. A separate Next Generation group, created in 2014, has more than 300 active members worldwide aged 18 to 75, drawn from the children and grandchildren of signatories; their identities are not disclosed because they did not personally sign the pledge. NEXUS deliberately mixes wealth-holders with the people they might fund. Its Australian chapter publishes the target ratio: roughly 50 per cent wealth holders including next-generation philanthropists, inheritors and impact investors; 30 per cent social change makers; 15 per cent corporate funders, impact investors and philanthropic advisers; and 5 per cent young leaders in public service. Most participants are between 15 and 40, with up to 10 per cent of places reserved for mentors and allies over 40.

Sponsor required No Sometimes
Application process Someone who meets the billionaire threshold and is ready to make the public commitment contacts the Giving Pledge to express interest. There is no published application form, review committee, sponsorship requirement or interview stage. In the early years Gates, French Gates and Buffett recruited signatories directly. Signatories usually publish a letter on the Giving Pledge website when they join. Applications open three to four months before each summit. Candidates apply online or are invited, and the NEXUS Organizing Committee reviews within weeks against member referrals, personal and professional background, diversity and the target composition ratios. NEXUS describes the process as highly selective, with far more applications than places. Acceptance plus attendance at the multi-day summit confers membership for three years. Existing members are not guaranteed a seat at future summits.
Selectivity Not publicly disclosed — no acceptance rate or vetting process is published. The threshold is the billion-dollar net worth test plus willingness to make the commitment publicly. NEXUS states applications significantly exceed available spots and that a quality application does not guarantee admission, noting that it has 6,000+ members while its largest Global Summit seats only 700. No acceptance rate is published.
Kosten
Jaarlijkse contributie No membership dues exist. The Giving Pledge states it does not solicit donations or request any administrative or handling charges, and warns that emails seeking payment in its name are scams. Evenementkosten The Giving Pledge publishes no dues or fees of any kind; there are none. Not publicly disclosed — summit fees vary by event and NEXUS says only that they are in line with comparable conferences. Participants pay their own travel and accommodation; limited subsidies are available for social entrepreneurs.verified September 2026 · bron ↗
Membership term Permanent — the pledge is a lifetime and testamentary commitment Three years from attending a qualifying summit
Structuur
Meeting frequency An annual gathering for signatories, plus smaller gatherings, learning sessions, cohort programmes and multi-day trips through the year, including sessions for signatories' family members and philanthropic staff An annual Global Summit in New York seating 500–700 people, plus regional summits in Australia, Latin America, Europe, MENA and Asia, and salons, delegations, retreats and working-group sessions through the year
Peer forums No standing confidential peer forums are published. The Giving Pledge team convenes small-group cohorts, full-day sessions and multi-day learning trips, and runs a separate Next Generation group for signatories' children and grandchildren. Member-led working groups organised by issue — NEXUS and the UN Office for Partnerships describe thematic brain trusts covering biodiversity, energy innovation, ocean conservation, human trafficking and SDG advocacy — plus country and city chapters
Confidentiality Signatories' identities and letters are public by design. The Next Generation group is the exception: the Giving Pledge does not disclose its members' identities, on the grounds that they did not personally choose to sign. Not publicly disclosed
