Primary audience Individuals and couples with a net worth of at least one billion dollars, or who would be billionaires but for their giving People aged 18 to 35 in the United States who have access to wealth or class privilege placing them in the top 10 per cent by net wealth or income, and who want to redistribute rather than grow that wealth
Typisch lid Signatories are billionaires and billionaire couples who have publicly committed to give the majority of their wealth to philanthropy during their lifetime or in their wills. Most publish a signed letter explaining their reasoning. A separate Next Generation group, created in 2014, has more than 300 active members worldwide aged 18 to 75, drawn from the children and grandchildren of signatories; their identities are not disclosed because they did not personally sign the pledge. Members are young people with inherited or earned wealth in the top decile of the US economy. Qualification runs through personal income at roughly the 90th percentile for the member's state (around $105,000 nationally, ranging from about $82,000 to $248,000 by cost of living), significant personal net financial assets, or family wealth: family net wealth of $1 million or more, parental income in the top decile, or ownership of a family foundation. A high net wealth designation covers the top 1 per cent: $1 million or more in liquid assets, an anticipated inheritance of $5 million, or family net wealth of $10 million or more.

Application process Someone who meets the billionaire threshold and is ready to make the public commitment contacts the Giving Pledge to express interest. There is no published application form, review committee, sponsorship requirement or interview stage. In the early years Gates, French Gates and Buffett recruited signatories directly. Signatories usually publish a letter on the Giving Pledge website when they join. Prospective members complete an online intake form, choose the membership track matching their age and access to wealth, pay dues and are connected to a local chapter. There is no vetting committee, sponsorship requirement or interview described; the qualification is self-assessed against RG's published wealth and income percentile thresholds, and the site links to external percentile calculators.
Selectivity Not publicly disclosed: no acceptance rate or vetting process is published. The threshold is the billion-dollar net worth test plus willingness to make the commitment publicly. Not publicly disclosed: RG publishes detailed qualification thresholds but no screening or acceptance process. The tests are self-applied.
Kosten
Jaarlijkse contributie No membership dues exist. The Giving Pledge states it does not solicit donations or request any administrative or handling charges, and warns that emails seeking payment in its name are scams. RG asks all members, including alumni, to contribute 5 to 10 per cent of their overall annual giving as dues, so members who give more pay more; those for whom $500 is prohibitive may select "other" and pay the percentage instead.verified September 2026 · bron ↗

The Giving Pledge team convenes small-group cohorts, full-day sessions and multi-day learning trips, and runs a separate Next Generation group for signatories' children and grandchildren. No confidential facilitated peer-forum structure is published.
Confidentiality Signatories' identities and letters are public by design. The Next Generation group is the exception: the Giving Pledge does not disclose its members' identities, on the grounds that they did not personally choose to sign. Not publicly disclosed
