Primary audience Individuals and couples with a net worth of at least one billion dollars, or who would be billionaires but for their giving Ultra-high-net-worth entrepreneurs, investors and executives with at least US$20 million in investable assets, many of them post-exit.
典型的な会員像 Signatories are billionaires and billionaire couples who have publicly committed to give the majority of their wealth to philanthropy during their lifetime or in their wills. Most publish a signed letter explaining their reasoning. A separate Next Generation group, created in 2014, has more than 300 active members worldwide aged 18 to 75, drawn from the children and grandchildren of signatories; their identities are not disclosed because they did not personally sign the pledge. Members are wealth creators rather than salaried executives: current and former entrepreneurs, investment managers and senior executives, typically after a liquidity event, whose central problem has shifted from building a business to preserving and allocating capital.
Qualification
最低純資産額 A net worth of at least one billion dollars, or a net worth that would be at that level but for the person's givingApplies to individuals and couples.verified September 2026 · 出典 ↗ No published minimum net worth
投資可能資産の最低基準 No published minimum investable assets At least US$20,000,000 in verifiable investable assets or qualifying net worthExcludes personal-use assets. TIGER 21 states that meeting the minimum "does not guarantee admittance".verified September 2026 · 出典 ↗
Invitation required Sometimes No
Sponsor required No Not documented
Application process Someone who meets the billionaire threshold and is ready to make the public commitment contacts the Giving Pledge to express interest. There is no published application form, review committee, sponsorship requirement or interview stage. In the early years Gates, French Gates and Buffett recruited signatories directly. Signatories usually publish a letter on the Giving Pledge website when they join. Candidates submit an inquiry and are assessed by a Membership Development Director against the 5Cs. Vetting includes extensive background checks and interviews, and TIGER 21 states the process typically takes about two months. Meeting the capital minimum is explicitly not sufficient on its own.
Selectivity Not publicly disclosed: no acceptance rate or vetting process is published. The threshold is the billion-dollar net worth test plus willingness to make the commitment publicly. TIGER 21 states that meeting the US$20 million minimum "does not guarantee admittance" and that other qualitative requirements apply at its discretion. No acceptance rate is published.
費用
年会費 No membership dues exist. The Giving Pledge states it does not solicit donations or request any administrative or handling charges, and warns that emails seeking payment in its name are scams. 構造
Meeting frequency An annual gathering for signatories, plus smaller gatherings, learning sessions, cohort programmes and multi-day trips through the year, including sessions for signatories' family members and philanthropic staff Monthly group meetings, eleven times a year, with the calendar set up to a year in advance
Peer forums No standing confidential peer forums are published. The Giving Pledge team convenes small-group cohorts, full-day sessions and multi-day learning trips, and runs a separate Next Generation group for signatories' children and grandchildren. Groups start with five founding members and grow selectively to a maximum of fifteen; members meet as a peer group with a moderating Chair.
Confidentiality Signatories' identities and letters are public by design. The Next Generation group is the exception: the Giving Pledge does not disclose its members' identities, on the grounds that they did not personally choose to sign. Confidentiality is one of the four Conditions members must accept, alongside non-solicitation, participation and transparency.
Time commitment Not documented Eleven monthly meetings a year plus an annual Portfolio Defense presentation
