Founding — The Campden Wealth About page gives 1987; the group's homepage elsewhere cites 1999. The 1987 date reflects the original Campden publishing business, the 1999 date the wealth-focused membership operation.

Campden Wealth is a London-based, family-owned research and membership business serving wealthy families, their family offices and ultra-high-net-worth investors. Its membership arm is the Campden Club, an invitation-only network of more than 1,400 family members and family office professionals across roughly 40 countries. Campden is best known for its proprietary research, particularly the Global Family Office Report and its family business studies, which are distributed to members and widely cited in the wealth-management press. Membership programming includes international events and workshops, co-investment sessions, curated peer introductions through Member Connect, and dedicated communities for next-generation family members and for women of wealth. Campden also runs an education partnership with the Wharton School. The group owns two related networks: the Institute for Private Investors, a North American membership community acquired in 2011, and Campden Family Connect, a joint venture with the Patni family established in 2016 to serve ultra-high-net-worth families in India. Qualification is by application and is restricted to families and family-controlled offices; offices affiliated with banks or financial services firms are excluded. Campden does not publish membership fees.

How it works

Applicants complete a qualification form and normally receive a decision within 48 hours; existing IPI members are treated as already qualified. Accepted members join the Campden Club, attend international events and workshops, and can request peer introductions through Member Connect. Twelve co-investment workshops a year present off-market deal flow and roundtable discussion. Members also receive Campden's proprietary research reports.

Typical member

Members are family principals and family office executives from multi-generational business-owning families. Campden describes its constituency as business-owning families with annual revenues above GBP 100 million, though it does not publish this as a hard qualification test.

Requirements are the tests the organization itself publishes — an age ceiling, a company-revenue floor, a net-worth minimum, a role. Where a figure straddles a range, the organization's own assessment decides. Local chapters can apply stricter tests than the published standard.

Independent context

Campden's distinguishing asset is research rather than premises or forums: the Global Family Office Report is a reference document for the sector, and membership is in part a subscription to that data plus the events around it. The qualification rule is unusually clear for this category - it screens by who controls the office, not by declared wealth - which keeps commercial wealth managers out but does not itself guarantee a high wealth floor. The group's own pages disagree on founding year (1987 versus 1999) and on how many countries the membership spans (39 versus 43), so headline figures should be treated as approximate. Prospective members should note that Campden, IPI and Campden Family Connect are one commercial group, so joining one brings access to the others rather than genuinely independent networks.
