The Chief Executives Organization is the graduate body of YPO, founded in 1958 by H. Jack Dow, who had reached YPO's age limit and wanted a community for what came after it. Its first formal meetings were held in 1959 in Florida, Cleveland and Chicago, followed by a first large event in Arizona in 1960. CEO is deliberately small: membership is by invitation only and capped at 2,000, and the organisation says the cap exists to protect intimacy and trust rather than to signal exclusivity. Its programme is built on travel and education rather than on facilitated peer forums. CEO runs roughly 25 global events a year, alongside seminars developed with Harvard, Oxford and Stanford, webcasts and local gatherings, and has run a spouse and partner Friendship Club since 1968. It signed a formal cooperation agreement with YPO in 2017, reaffirming the link between the two organisations, and appointed its first female international chair of the board in 2020. Dues are not published.
Comment ça fonctionne
Members join by invitation. The programme centres on curated global experiences, typically about 25 events a year, plus university-partnered seminars, webcasts, NextGen programming and smaller local gatherings. There is no published forum or peer-board structure of the kind YPO and Vistage use.
Membre type
CEO states the average member age is 66 and that 31 per cent of members are under 60, with members drawn from more than 62 countries. Members are typically past the operating stage of their careers, having come through YPO or an affiliated organisation.

CEO is best understood as the destination for people who have aged out of YPO rather than as a competitor to it, and the 2017 cooperation agreement formalises that relationship. The defining feature is the hard cap of 2,000 places, which makes membership a genuinely finite good and explains why almost nothing about admission is public: there is no application route, no published dues and no stated eligibility test beyond invitation and a background in the "O" organisations. The centre of gravity is travel and education rather than confidential peer work, and the reported average member age of 66 signals a community oriented toward legacy, learning and friendship more than toward operating problems. Anyone researching cost or admission criteria will find nothing official.
