HBS Alumni Angels membership requirements

Every criterion HBS Alumni Angels publishes, with its source, the date it was verified and how confident we are in it — plus superseded figures, so you can see how the tests have moved.

Read a requirement as the organization's published floor, not as a promise. A revenue test may have alternative versions for different business types, chapters can set stricter local tests, and invitation-only bodies publish criteria that describe members rather than admit them.

Other criterion Membership is open to alumni of Harvard Business School and, in chapters that state it, graduates of any Harvard University school The association directs Harvard alumni to apply through their nearest chapter; no Harvard affiliation is required for a company to pitch Verified September 2026High confidenceSource ↗
Accredited-investor status Accredited-investor status is required to take part in investing; the Greater New York chapter requires it for pitch-night participation and the Northern California chapter requires accredited-investor status with Harvard affiliation Applied at chapter level, not by the association Verified September 2026High confidenceSource ↗
Other criterion No minimum investment requirement at the Greater New York chapter The chapter states there is no pressure to invest and no minimum investment requirement; other chapters do not publish their position Verified September 2026High confidenceSource ↗

Requirements are set chapter by chapter. Only some chapters publish them.

How admission works

Application process
Prospective members apply to their nearest chapter rather than to the association. In Greater New York, HBS alumni use the chapter join or renew link, while graduates of other Harvard schools submit contact details through a form and wait about seven business days for staff to set up an account. In Northern California, applications run through a Gust page. Requirements and processing differ by chapter.
Invitation required
No
Sponsor required
No
Selectivity
Not publicly disclosed. The binding constraint is Harvard alumni status plus, in chapters that state it, accredited-investor status.
Membership term
Annual; the Greater New York chapter also sells a three-year term
Primary audience
Harvard alumni who are accredited investors and want to invest in and advise early-stage companies
Typical member
Members are alumni of Harvard Business School or of any Harvard University school. Chapters require accredited-investor status to take part in pitch nights and investing. Companies pitching do not need any Harvard affiliation.
