Fundación: Founded in 1917 by a group of Seattle businessmen who shared information about ships arriving in port and referred clients to one another, per the association's own history.
The Seattle Executives Association is a business referral organisation founded in 1917, which it describes as the first business networking organisation in Washington State. Its origins were practical: a group of Seattle businessmen met to share information about ships arriving in port and to refer clients to each other, and the weekly meeting format has survived. Membership is exclusive by business category: only one company in each classification may join, so a member owns their classification within the group for as long as they remain. Applicants must be an owner, principal or decision maker, their company must have traded for at least two years, and members must attend at least half of the weekly Wednesday luncheons, held at the Washington Athletic Club or at member locations. The association reports more than 130 members and says that in the preceding year members exchanged more than $30m in mutual business and more than 2,000 direct referrals. It publishes a mission built around lead exchange and mutual business, with stated core values of trust, professionalism and mutual respect, and a diversity statement. Dues are not published.
Cómo funciona
Members meet weekly for a Wednesday luncheon, where they learn what each member's business does and share information about buyers in the market. Between meetings, members do one-to-one meetings and pass referrals. Prospective members call the association office to check whether their business category is open; if it is, they are invited to a luncheon before deciding. The association also runs a podcast and maintains an online member network.
Miembro tipo
Members are business owners, principals or company decision makers whose firms have traded for at least two years. The membership is deliberately spread across business categories rather than concentrated in one sector; open categories advertised in 2026 included appliance sales and service, residential cleaning, collision repair, distillery, fine dining, limousine service, office equipment and supplies, record storage and shredding, title and escrow, television station, replacement windows and winery.

Contexto independiente
This is a referral group in the classic mould, and its economics are transparent: one company per category, a weekly meeting, an attendance requirement, and a claimed $30m of business passed between members annually. That structure suits owner-operators of established local businesses (trades, professional services, hospitality suppliers) for whom a locked category in a 130-firm room is a real asset. It suits corporate executives and investors far less; there is no peer-advisory element and no investment activity. Two caveats. The referral and dollar figures are self-reported with no published methodology. And the association does not publish dues anywhere, which for a group whose value proposition is measurable business exchange is a notable omission: the cost has to be established by telephone. The 1917 founding, if accurate, makes it one of the oldest bodies of its kind in the United States.
