Founding — Founded by restaurateur Nick Jones above his Cafe Boheme restaurant on Greek Street in London's Soho, per Wikipedia's account of the club. The corporate parent is incorporated in Delaware; operational headquarters and the original House are in London.

Soho House is a chain of private members' clubs founded in London in 1995 and now operating Houses across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Asia. Each House combines club rooms, restaurants and bars with some combination of gyms, spas, pools, workspaces, screening rooms and bedrooms, and members book food, drink, rooms and events through the club's own app. Membership is sold in tiers: Every House, which admits a member to all Houses; Local House, restricted to the House nearest the member's home; Cities Without Houses, for people living in cities where the group has no site; and Under 27, a discounted rate applied when the applicant joins before 27 and retained until their thirtieth birthday. Separate Soho Friends and Soho Works products give lower-cost access to restaurants, bedrooms and workspaces. The group listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2021 as Membership Collective Group, renamed itself Soho House & Co in 2023, and returned to private ownership in a US$2.7bn transaction that closed in January 2026.

How it works

Applications are made online through the club's own portal, take roughly 15 minutes and require a photograph, card details and information on the applicant's occupation and interests. Successful applicants pay a one-off House Introduction Fee, which the club converts into member credit for food, drink and bedrooms, then pay quarterly or annually. Members book Houses, bedrooms, gyms and more than 2,400 monthly events through the Soho House app, and may bring up to three guests.

Typical member

Members are drawn largely from film, television, music, art, design, fashion, media and adjacent creative businesses. The club publishes no income, net-worth or seniority test, and Wikipedia records that the club has publicly emphasised creativity over net worth and job title.

Requirements are the tests the organization itself publishes — an age ceiling, a company-revenue floor, a net-worth minimum, a role. Where a figure straddles a range, the organization's own assessment decides. Local chapters can apply stricter tests than the published standard.

CriterionPublished requirementNoteProvenance
Maximum age at joining Applicants under 27 qualify for Under 27 pricing The club states the discount runs "until your 30th birthday", so the age test applies at joining rather than throughout membership. There is no published upper age limit on membership itself. Verified September 2026High confidenceSource ↗
Other criterion Applicants supply a recent photograph, payment card details and information about their occupation and interests The club publishes no income, net-worth, seniority or industry test, and does not describe a committee or sponsorship stage on its public pages. Verified September 2026High confidenceSource ↗
Geographic restriction Local House membership is tied to the House nearest the member's home; Cities Without Houses is for applicants based where the group has no House Every House membership carries no geographic restriction. Verified September 2026High confidenceSource ↗
Application process
Applicants complete an online form on the club's application portal, which the club says takes around 15 minutes and requires a recent profile photograph, credit or debit card details and information about the applicant's interests and occupation. The portal also offers a pricing calculator before submission. Soho House does not publish the criteria used to assess applications, nor whether proposers or seconders are required.

Independent context

Soho House is the largest operator in this category by an order of magnitude, and its scale is also its central tension: after years of rapid growth the company stopped taking new members in New York, Los Angeles and London from 2024 in response to member complaints about crowding, while continuing to add members in newer cities. It is unusual among private clubs in publishing exact prices through an online calculator, which makes it one of the few benchmarks available for the sector. Prospective members should note that headline dues understate the cost: the introduction fee, local supplements at some Houses and separate charges for Soho Works and certain Malibu access are billed on top. The 2026 take-private removes the quarterly disclosure that until now made membership numbers verifiable.
