Primary audience Individuals and couples with a net worth of at least one billion dollars, or who would be billionaires but for their giving Centimillionaire families: individuals and families with a net worth above US$100 million.
Membre type Signatories are billionaires and billionaire couples who have publicly committed to give the majority of their wealth to philanthropy during their lifetime or in their wills. Most publish a signed letter explaining their reasoning. A separate Next Generation group, created in 2014, has more than 300 active members worldwide aged 18 to 75, drawn from the children and grandchildren of signatories; their identities are not disclosed because they did not personally sign the pledge. Members are wealth creators and their families rather than salaried executives. R360 states members have a net worth above US$100 million; its December 2025 release describes more than 170 members collectively stewarding over US$100 billion, implying an average well above the entry threshold.

Application process Someone who meets the billionaire threshold and is ready to make the public commitment contacts the Giving Pledge to express interest. There is no published application form, review committee, sponsorship requirement or interview stage. In the early years Gates, French Gates and Buffett recruited signatories directly. Signatories usually publish a letter on the Giving Pledge website when they join. Prospective members submit a membership inquiry through R360's website, after which the Membership Committee evaluates them. R360 states that qualification is by invitation and fit rather than by net worth alone, and has introduced an assessment for candidates.
Selectivity Not publicly disclosed: no acceptance rate or vetting process is published. The threshold is the billion-dollar net worth test plus willingness to make the commitment publicly. R360's founder stated in a December 2025 press release that "seventy-two individuals, including nine billionaires, have been turned down by our membership committee". No acceptance rate is published.
