How eligibility tests work — and how they are applied

Age ceilings, revenue floors, net-worth minimums, title tests and invitations: what the published criteria mean, where they bend, and where the real decision is made.

Every organization on this site is tagged with the criteria it publishes, and the qualification tool reads them against a profile you give in ranges. It helps to know what kind of test each is.

Tests about you

Age is the hardest test to argue with: YPO's members join before 45, Young Global Leaders before 40, Global Shapers before 30. Organizations with age ceilings often have graduate bodies (YPO Gold, Chief Executives Organization) for those who pass the limit. Role tests — chief executive, owner, founder, majority stakeholder — are usually applied literally, and the distinction between running a company and owning it separates YPO from EO. Tenure tests (Chief's fifteen years of leadership) and gender tests are stated plainly where they exist.

Tests about the company

Revenue floors are the commonest company test and frequently come with alternatives: YPO's US$16 million standard has agency, employee, enterprise-value and assets-under-management variants; EO's US$1 million has a venture-backed route; Hampton accepts revenue, capital raised or an exit. Employees and valuation tests appear as alternatives more often than as primary criteria.

Tests about wealth

Net worth and investable assets floors define the wealth communities — US$3 million at Long Angle, US$20 million at TIGER 21, US$100 million at R360 — and are usually verified by document. Accredited-investor status, required by every angel group, is a legal definition (in the United States, US$1 million net worth excluding the primary residence, or US$200,000 income) rather than an organizational one.

Where the real decision is made

Published criteria are necessary and rarely sufficient. TIGER 21 says meeting its minimum does not guarantee admission; Vistage says its Chairs select; R360 admits on fit; the clubs require proposers. Chapters can apply stricter local tests than the published standard. The qualification tool is honest about this: it reports whether you appear to meet the published criteria and lists what remains to be confirmed, and the organization decides.
