Founding — The Aster publishes no founding or opening date on its own site, and no reliable dated source was located. Its earlier domain, asterlosangeles.com, was still a parked holding page in August 2018 and June 2019 per the Internet Archive, which suggests the club post-dates that period but does not establish an opening date.

The Aster is a private members' club and boutique hotel at 1717 Vine Street in Hollywood, Los Angeles. It occupies six floors combining club spaces with hotel rooms, and its amenities include a rooftop restaurant, four food and beverage outlets, an outdoor pool and pool-deck lounge, a 24-hour gym with a weight room, an eight-bed reformer Pilates studio and yoga room, a 36-seat indoor cinema plus a rooftop cinema, a recording studio with a production room and vocal booth, private and shared work studios with meeting rooms and phone booths, and a loft-like Cabaret space for talks, dinners and performances. Membership is deliberately simple: a single Full Membership tier at a published monthly rate covering all six floors, with no long-term contract, plus a one-off initial membership fee. Members get preferred hotel rates, member events and wellness programming, and reciprocal access to a large network of clubs worldwide through Sonato and direct partners, which includes The Battery in San Francisco, Fitler Club in Philadelphia, Mandala Club in Singapore and the Vancouver Club. Hotel guests receive access to member amenities during their stay.

How it works

Prospective members submit an enquiry through the club's membership page. The club states that all memberships are subject to approval and that an initial membership fee applies; there is no published sponsorship, nomination or committee stage. Members hold a single Full Membership giving access to all club spaces, more than twenty classes and events a week, and reciprocal club access. Members may host up to three guests a day, and guests must be accompanied by the member throughout.

Typical member

The club characterises members as creative professionals working in and around the Hollywood entertainment industry. It publishes no income, seniority or occupational test.

Requirements are the tests the organization itself publishes — an age ceiling, a company-revenue floor, a net-worth minimum, a role. Where a figure straddles a range, the organization's own assessment decides. Local chapters can apply stricter tests than the published standard.

Independent context

The Aster is the plainest commercial proposition in this group: one tier, one published price, a modest joining fee and an explicit statement that no long-term contract is required. At US$300 a month it is priced closer to a premium gym-and-coworking product than to the initiation-fee clubs it sits beside in Los Angeles, and the hotel attached to it means non-members can buy their way into the amenities for the length of a stay, which materially changes what exclusivity means here. The reciprocal network is the strongest part of the offer for anyone who travels. Two gaps are worth noting: the club publishes no founding date and no ownership information, and its 500-plus member figure carries no date, so it cannot be tracked over time.
