Business Roundtable
Sitting chief executives of large US-headquartered public and private companies
Fondazione — "Since 1972, Business Roundtable has served as the voice of America's leading CEOs in Washington." The first chair, W.B. Murphy of Campbell Soup, took office in October 1972.
Business Roundtable is a Washington-based association of the chief executives of large US companies. It reports more than 200 members and states that member companies support one in four American jobs and close to a quarter of US GDP. Its work is policy advocacy rather than peer development: CEOs sit on standing policy committees covering areas such as tax and fiscal policy, trade, immigration, energy and environment, health and retirement, technology, corporate governance, education and workforce, infrastructure and regulation, and the association lobbies and publishes on their behalf. It also runs a quarterly CEO Economic Outlook Survey and a set of corporate initiatives on workforce and social issues. Membership is corporate in effect but attaches to the individual chief executive, and the association emphasises direct CEO participation rather than delegation to government-affairs staff. Business Roundtable is organised as a 501(c)(6) trade association and reported total revenue of about $64.5 million for the 2023 tax year, almost all from member payments.
Come funziona
Members serve on CEO-led policy committees that set positions and direct the association's advocacy in Washington. The Roundtable publishes statements, letters and research under the members' collective name, runs a quarterly CEO Economic Outlook Survey, and operates corporate initiatives such as the Second Chance Business Coalition and workforce programmes. A board of directors drawn from the membership, chaired by a sitting member CEO, sets priorities.
Socio tipico
Members are the CEOs of leading US companies, drawn from every sector. Business Roundtable states that member companies support one in four American jobs and almost a quarter of US GDP. The published member list is dominated by S&P 500 constituents.

| Quote annuali | Not publicly disclosed. Business Roundtable publishes no dues schedule. Struttura e programmazione
Contesto indipendente
Business Roundtable is a lobbying association first and a network second, which distinguishes it from peer bodies such as The Business Council that exist mainly for CEO-to-CEO discussion. Its most-cited public act, the 2019 Statement on the Purpose of a Corporation, signalled a shift away from shareholder primacy and continues to attract argument about whether member behaviour changed. Two practical points for anyone assessing it: there is no published route in, no criteria beyond being the CEO of a leading US company, and no dues schedule, so cost has to be inferred from what individual member companies disclose in their own trade-association filings and from the association's IRS returns. And membership is effectively tied to the job: it belongs to whoever holds the chief executive seat, so it ends when the CEO does.
