Accredited investors, family offices and investment groups who want to make their own early-stage investments in Texas companies

A profile page holds what the organization publishes and what named sources report: who it admits, what it costs, how it is structured, where it operates, and how it has changed. Every figure carries the date it was checked. A dash means the organization does not publish that fact.

The Central Texas Angel Network is an independent non-profit member organisation in Austin that sources, screens and syndicates early-stage investments, principally in Texas. Founded in 2006, it publishes a full price list: individual or couple membership at $2,500 a year, group membership covering up to four designees at $4,500, and reduced out-of-state rates of $1,500 and $3,500 respectively, with annual dues falling by $500 from the second year. Membership requires accredited-investor status, a signed membership agreement and rules of conduct, a qualification meeting with a board member, and an active profile on the group's Dealum platform. Members invest individually and appear on the cap table in their own name rather than through the network; a sidecar fund is separately available to members. CTAN reports $142.4 million invested in 233 companies with 57 exits, and states a 4.3x return on cash, describing that as roughly double the national average for angel groups.

How it works

Companies apply through Dealum and are screened by member committees. Shortlisted companies pitch at member meetings, after which interested members run due diligence and invest individually. A sidecar fund gives members a further route into selected deals. Education events and social gatherings are included in dues at every membership level.

Typical member

All members qualify as accredited investors under US federal securities law. The membership includes individuals and couples, family offices and other investment groups, and a distinct out-of-state cohort who must live full-time outside Texas.

Requirements are the tests the organization itself publishes — an age ceiling, a company-revenue floor, a net-worth minimum, a role. Where a figure straddles a range, the organization's own assessment decides. Local chapters can apply stricter tests than the published standard.

Independent context

CTAN is among the most price-transparent angel groups in the United States: every membership tier and the second-year discount are published on its own site. Its structure is notable for keeping members on the cap table in their own names, which preserves individual control and information rights but leaves each member to manage their own paperwork and follow-ons. The published return figure of 4.3x on cash is self-reported and not independently audited, and the group's own comparison to a national average should be read as such. The out-of-state tier makes it one of the few regional angel groups deliberately open to non-local investors. It suits accredited investors who want to build a Texas-weighted early-stage portfolio and are prepared to do diligence work; it is not a fit for anyone seeking a passively managed vehicle.
