Founding — Sources give 2007 and 2008. Founder Angelo Robles is recorded as CEO from October 2008; a secondary directory gives a 2007 founding date. Could not be resolved from FOA's own pages, which do not state a founding year.

Family Office Association is a Greenwich, Connecticut membership organisation for single family offices and ultra-high-net-worth families, founded by Angelo Robles in the late 2000s. It describes itself as an affinity group dedicated primarily to the interests of single family offices, and states explicitly that it does not offer investment, tax or legal advice and does not participate in the offer or sale of securities. Membership is structured in three tiers. Family Office membership is aimed at families typically exceeding USD 100 million in assets under management with an established or forming family office. On the Rise membership admits individuals and families on a clear trajectory toward significant wealth who are committed to building a family office equivalent. Innovator membership is for companies from seed through Series C and beyond, and requires either an invitation from an existing member or a formal application with reference checks. Programming runs through events, an insights library covering wealth management, family governance, philanthropy and legacy, a Resource Council of subject specialists, and Peer Communities on themes such as global impact, technology and innovation, and sports and entertainment. FOA publishes no membership prices.

How it works

Members join one of three tiers and take part in events and thematic Peer Communities alongside a Resource Council of specialists who supply thought leadership. Content is delivered through an insights library organised by topic. Innovator-tier companies enter either by member invitation or by application with reference checks, which is the only admission route FOA describes in any detail.

Typical member

FOA's core tier targets families with a formal family office in place or being established, typically exceeding USD 100 million in assets under management with well-structured, diversified holdings. A second tier admits families on a trajectory toward that scale, and a third admits innovation companies.

Requirements are the tests the organization itself publishes — an age ceiling, a company-revenue floor, a net-worth minimum, a role. Where a figure straddles a range, the organization's own assessment decides. Local chapters can apply stricter tests than the published standard.

Ranges are taken at their midpoint; monthly dues are multiplied by twelve; the first-listed figure of each fee type is counted and later tiers of the same type are shown but not added; retreats, travel, events and anything the organization does not publish are left out rather than guessed. Figures are as published or reported on the date shown — not a quotation.

Independent context

FOA is the clearest example in this batch of a family office network that publishes an eligibility bar but not a price. The USD 100 million guideline for its core tier is stated on its own membership page, which is more than most peers disclose, but no dues figure exists anywhere in its public material. The organisation is also unusual in admitting companies seeking capital as a paying membership tier, which sits uneasily beside the solicitation-free posture that networks like CCC Alliance sell on - families joining should understand that some fellow members are there to raise money. The 2023 departure of founder Angelo Robles after a control dispute is a real discontinuity: the group that exists today is under different ownership from the one he built, and its current size is not disclosed.
