Golden Seeds

Golden Seeds is a United States angel investment network founded in 2004 by Stephanie Hanbury-Brown that invests exclusively in early-stage companies founded or led by women. It runs nine chapters - Arizona, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, New Jersey, New York and Silicon Valley - with members in 28 states, Washington DC and internationally. The organisation reports funding more than 275 companies with roughly USD 200 million invested, and says portfolio companies have attracted more than USD 2.5 billion in follow-on capital. Members may invest directly in individual deals or take diversified exposure through member-managed annual funds. The single published membership requirement is SEC accredited investor status, confirmed annually, alongside adherence to a code of conduct and active participation. Membership includes training through the Golden Seeds Knowledge Institute, which covers angel investing basics, due diligence, sector-specific material and governance; access to monthly pitch meetings and investor forums; the annual Golden Seeds Summit; and membership of the Angel Capital Association. Prospective members normally attend a virtual open house and then observe a forum meeting before requesting a membership agreement. Golden Seeds charges a one-time initiation fee and ongoing annual dues but does not publish either amount.

Golden Seeds is the largest US angel network focused solely on women-founded and women-led companies, and the mission is the entry criterion in practice - the only formal test is accreditation, but the network expects a commitment to that thesis. Its investor training through the Knowledge Institute is more developed than at most angel groups and makes it a reasonable entry point for newer angels, who can also diversify through the annual funds rather than picking single deals. Two things are unclear from published material. The organisation's own pages disagree sharply on membership size, citing nearly 300 members in one place and more than 1,150 investors in another. And while Golden Seeds confirms it charges an initiation fee and annual dues, neither figure appears anywhere public, so the cost of joining can only be established by contacting the membership team.
