Fundación: Not publicly disclosed. The association names Tom Cervantez, Sean Jacobsohn, Maurice Gopikian and Sajjad Masud as co-founders but gives no founding year. Its France chapter is described as having been led by its founder for fifteen years to 2023, implying chapter activity from around 2008.

The Harvard Business School Alumni Angels Association is a federated angel network of 20 chapters on several continents, describing itself as an educational and networking forum for Harvard alumni who research and invest in early-stage companies on an individual basis. It reports more than 1,000 members, 440 companies funded and $110 million invested. The association runs shared programming, including webinars, an annual conference, and basic and advanced angel-investing bootcamps, while admission, dues and investing take place at chapter level. Chapters vary in size and price: the Greater New York chapter reports more than 300 angel investors, $40 million invested and 157 companies funded, and charges $350 for one year or $750 for three, with membership of the HBS Club of New York and the Angel Capital Association included; it states there is no minimum investment requirement. The Northern California chapter requires accredited-investor status with Harvard affiliation and reviews more than 40 deals a quarter, selecting four to six to present. Companies seeking funding need no Harvard affiliation to pitch.

Cómo funciona

Membership and investing run through local chapters, which members apply to directly. Chapters hold pitch events at their own cadence, monthly in New York and quarterly in Northern California, screen deal flow through selection committees, and form due-diligence teams. Members invest individually rather than through a central fund. The association layer provides webinars, an annual conference, angel-investing bootcamps and a cross-chapter deal showcase.

Miembro tipo

Members are alumni of Harvard Business School or of any Harvard University school. Chapters require accredited-investor status to take part in pitch nights and investing. Companies pitching do not need any Harvard affiliation.

Application process
Prospective members apply to their nearest chapter rather than to the association. In Greater New York, HBS alumni use the chapter join or renew link, while graduates of other Harvard schools submit contact details through a form and wait about seven business days for staff to set up an account. In Northern California, applications run through a Gust page. Requirements and processing differ by chapter.

Contexto independiente

HBSAA is best understood as a federation rather than one club: the association publishes headline totals but every practical detail, from dues to pitch cadence to how deals are syndicated, is set by the chapter. That produces wide variation, and it makes cross-chapter comparison hard because most chapters do not publish dues at all. The New York chapter is the outlier for transparency and is inexpensive by angel-group standards at $350 a year with no investment minimum, which lowers the barrier relative to Sand Hill Angels or CTAN but also means many members never invest. The Harvard requirement is the real gate; accreditation is required on top of it in the chapters that publish criteria. It suits Harvard alumni who want structured exposure to angel deals and a strong alumni network. It offers nothing to non-alumni investors.
