Fundación: Founded in 1897 by the Old Yale Alumni Association of New York; the club uses the line "Building Lasting Friendships Since 1897".
The Yale Club of New York City is an alumni club founded in 1897 and housed since June 1915 in a 22-storey building at 50 Vanderbilt Avenue, opposite Grand Central Terminal, designed by the Yale architect James Gamble Rogers. Eligibility runs through Yale: degree holders, full-time graduate students completing a Yale degree, and full-time professors. Separate application tracks exist for Yale undergraduates, a summer membership for undergraduates, spouses and domestic partners, and affiliates -- Dartmouth, University of Virginia and Delta Kappa Epsilon alumni join through three affiliate clubs that share the same clubhouse. The club reports more than 13,000 members worldwide. Facilities include dining rooms, a library, athletic facilities, and recently renovated guest rooms, together with conference, meeting and event space. The club does not publish its dues or entrance fee: prospective members submit their name, degree type and class year to a dues calculator to be quoted a rate, and successful applicants are sent a payment link covering an initiation fee and the first month's dues.
Cómo funciona
Applicants apply online in the category that matches their Yale affiliation. Applications are reviewed; on approval the applicant receives a payment link for the initiation fee and first month's dues, and an active membership account typically follows within one to two weeks. The clubhouse operates for dining, athletics, overnight stays, meetings and events, and prospective members may take a weekday tour. Members of the affiliated Dartmouth Club, Virginia Club and DKE Club use the same building.
Miembro tipo
Members are Yale degree holders, current full-time Yale graduate students, Yale undergraduates and faculty, plus spouses and domestic partners. The club says its membership "continues to evolve and reflect Yale's student body values". No occupational or wealth profile is published.

Contexto independiente
The Yale Club is the largest college clubhouse ever built and its membership base -- more than 13,000 -- is unusually large for a single-house club, which shapes the experience: it functions more like a busy midtown facility than an intimate club. Eligibility is closed to Yale affiliates, with the notable exception of the three affiliate clubs sharing the building, which give Dartmouth, Virginia and DKE alumni a route into the same premises. The club's pricing is the main opacity: unlike the Harvard Club, which publishes a full dues table, the Yale Club routes prospective members through a dues calculator that requires personal details, so a comparison shopper cannot see what a membership costs without making contact. Dues appear to be banded by degree type and class year, which is how comparable alumni clubs price, but the club does not confirm this publicly.
